NDE Portal FAQ
Portal Access
Visit https://portal.www.education.ne.gov/ and click New Portal to register for an account.
Click the blue “Click Here” button and select your District/System name from the dropdown menu. If your District/System name does not appear in the list, go back and click the “here” hyperlink at the end of the “If your District/System is not listed when you click the button above, click here” sentence.
Non-SSO users can create portal accounts using Google or Microsoft login systems or by clicking “Sign up for NDE Portal account”.
Portal Accounts
If you have a portal account, but no EdOrg in the upper right-hand corner, you can either
- Contact your portal District Administrator, or
- Request access through the Profile section of your Portal account. Click Profile>Requests.
An EdOrg is the District/System associated with your portal account.
Click Contacts>My Organization or contact your portal District Administrator or Proxy.
If you created your portal account using SSO, Gmail or Microsoft log in functionality, first, last and email information is not editable, because it comes directly from your SSO, Gmail or Microsoft account. Contact your email support. If you signed up using just your email address, you can update this information in Profile>Information.
Portal accounts are based on a multitude of factors such as email account status and approved application access. Accounts can be disabled automatically or locked manually. See your portal District Administrator, Proxy or contact the Service Desk (NDE.ServiceDesk@Nebraska.gov) with access issues.
Portal Management
Typically, the Superintendent is portal District Administrator, though at Nonpublic Systems sometimes this person is the Head Teacher or Principal.
Portal District Admins can assign one proxy per EdOrg (District/System). This can be whomever they deem most appropriate.
This can be assigned through the District Admin’s access to the Admin Portal > Assign Proxy Admin.
Right now there can only be 1 Proxy per District/System.
This is determined by the portal District Admin. You can view this information in your portal account by going to Contacts>My District Admins.
Applications/Roles
Roles define which applications a user has access to. Roles can be based on a job responsibility (such as Data Steward or SPED Director) or they can be based on application access (portal user only needs access to Staff Reporting and nothing else). Roles are requestable by the portal user or assignable by the portal District Admin or Proxy.
The nice thing about requesting/being assigned a Role (vs single application access), is future application releases. If a new application is released, specific Roles will automatically be assigned the new application by the NDE. If a user only has single application access, they’ll have to request (or be assigned) every new application which comes out.
We will slowly be transitioning collections from the legacy portal to the new portal. Accordingly, applications will only be listed in the new portal when they are available (pending access request/approval).
General Portal Information
We are working on guidance for the new portal. It should be available soon.
